A favorite by hummingbirds, this beautiful plant is sadly becoming more and more rare in the wild due to habitat loss. Lucky for us, this beauty is relatively easy to grow at home although it can be a little more of a challenge to start from seed for beginners.
Interesting fact about the Royal Catchfly: The stems and leaves are sticky and tend to "catch" lots of smaller insect visitors. Although they are considered to be in the carnivorous family of plants, Selene regia does not gain nutrients from digested insects. It only digests them to rid itself of dead insects collected on its stem and leaves. It more or less protects itself from smaller pests like aphids.
