Wild GInger Farm-
From veggies to natives
Wild Ginger Farm was established in 2021 as a mixed garlic and vegetable operation with a heavy emphasis on growing food naturally; without the use of pesticides or herbicides. With a love and understanding for ecological restoration, Alyssa and Elizabeth sought out to introduce more native plants (thus inviting more pollinator and beneficial insects) into their farm operation in order to improve their crops and provide the community with nutritious and untainted food. As time went on and the momentum of the native plant movement rose, Alyssa and Elizabeth expanded their focus from vegetables to also include selling native plants. Restoring this area's native plants, insects, and birds is the main goal of Wild Ginger Farm. We hope to do this not only through the sale of plants to members of our community but also by educating people of what it means to repopulate this area with the species that once dominated our forests, meadows, prairies, and wetlands and how it impacts us directly. After all, we, as humans, would be nothing without the natural world around us.
Alyssa WisehartCo-owner, Head PropagatorAlyssa grew up in Indiana and had a strong passion for the outdoors from a young age. She initially pursued her interest in plants at age 19 when she began working on organic farms throughout the US and Europe. She gained her permaculture design certificate in 2009 and from there developed an interest in perennial plants. She spent many years working and volunteering at various plant nurseries and developed a great appreciation for native plants and the inherent ecological value they hold. She expanded her plant propagation skills working as a horticulturist at a nature sanctuary and she is currently pursuing a certificate in Native Plant Studies through the Native Plant Trust. Alyssa is continually fascinated about all she continues to learn about plant resilience and survival and it is always something that has given her a sense of hope. Alyssa is passionate about combining regenerative agriculture with native plant restoration and integrates principles she has learned from different spheres into Wild Ginger Farm.

Elizabeth WisehartCo-owner, Project ManagerElizabeth was born and raised in southeast Georgia and was one of those kids you could never keep inside. Since as far back as she can remember, Elizabeth has always been an animal person- starting from her first job as a kennel worker at the local animal shelter to her current position as a vet assistant. Although Elizabeth was always fascinated by the plant world she always played in as a kid, she didn't know a whole lot about it and stayed more focused on the animal world. It wasn't until she met Alyssa that she began to learn about and fall in love with native plants. Besides learning a lot of new and interesting things, Elizabeth was quick to pick up on just how important it is to pay attention to and take care of her area's native ecosystem (including the animal side of things) which sparked a whole new passion in her life. Elizabeth continues to grow as a beginner nusery-woman, absorbing all she can and teaching others who started out just like she did.
